DO YOU NEED LEGAL MEDIATION IN LANCASTER, PA?

Taking a dispute to trial can be expensive, stressful, and take months—or even years—to resolve. In many situations, legal mediation offers a better way forward. Mediation is often faster, more affordable, and less confrontational than traditional litigation.

  • People turn to legal mediation services for a wide range of issues, including:
  • Family disagreements like divorce or child support
  • Business disputes between partners or companies
  • Breach of contract matters
  • Landlord-tenant conflicts
  • Other civil disagreements where both parties want a fair solution

When you are looking for a solution outside the courtroom, it is important to work with a mediation lawyer who is skilled, impartial, and experienced. At May Herr & Grosh LLP, our attorneys have a strong background in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including both mediation and arbitration. We are here to help both sides reach a respectful, productive agreement.

“Mediation allows you to devise a solution that meets the needs of both parties, and to set up a framework for working together in the future. It allows me to ask, ‘Have you thought about this possibility? Would this approach work for you?’” — Attorney Richard Low

What Is Mediation?

Mediation is a private, guided process where a trained mediator helps people in conflict reach an agreement on their own terms. Instead of a courtroom battle with a clear winner and loser, legal mediation encourages collaboration and often results in solutions that work for both parties. A typical example is resolving disagreements between landlords and tenants over unpaid rent.

Successful mediators think creatively to help both sides find common ground. The key benefit of mediation is that it puts control back in the hands of the people involved, rather than leaving the outcome to a judge or jury.

At May Herr & Grosh LLP, partner Richard C. Low brings decades of experience. He has been helping clients resolve disputes through mediation since 1996, serving individuals and businesses throughout Lancaster, PA.

Here is what sets Attorney Low apart:

  • Qualified mediator through the Lancaster Bar Association
  • Advanced mediation training from the American Bar Association (Chicago and Atlanta)
  • Founding member and past chair of the Lancaster Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee
  • Member of the ABA and PBA Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections
  • Extensive experience with real estate disputes, especially landlord-tenant cases

What Is Arbitration?

In an arbitration, the parties to a dispute present their sides of a case to an arbitrator, who decides the case in place of a judge or jury. Arbitrations can be binding, meaning the decisions cannot be litigated further, or nonbinding, meaning any of the parties can decide to take the matter to trial.

In the local court system, civil disputes valued at $50,000 or less are decided by a panel of three attorneys who serve as arbitrators. Attorney Low is among the lawyers the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas Board of Judges appointed to chair these arbitration panels. He is also hired by attorneys directly to arbitrate a case.
